I have a 1975 L super beetle on which the previous (original) owner installed a single speed heater / demister dashboard fan motor.
I have obtained the correct OEM dual speed fan motor but the original ceramic resistor on this motor is unfortunately broken and requires replacement.
I am unsure where to obtain a replacement ceramic resistor and do not know the resistor rating to alternatively replace it with a new more modern type
resistor.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
what would happen if you jumpered the resistor?
I tried to find one of these myself a while ago but couldn't track one down. I just bought a new motor with intact resistor. If you could obtain the rating for it you could probably source something similar from Jaycar though.

Agreed - the ceramic resistor has no markings on it so I think this is going to be tough to find a replacement resistor.
EgeWorks - you mentioned sourcing a new motor, can you suggest where I might source one if I cannot replace the resistor? Thanks.
Where are you??
Shouldnt be too hard to find one at a wrecker
I got mine from Dave Becker here on the forum. Maybe if you put up a wanted ad in the buying and selling section someone will have one.
has anyone got a picture of the above mentioned set up?
does anyone know if its still possible to get brushes for these fan motors?
i think mine are fairly worn as my charge light glows abit when i turn it on

Here is a pic of the unit. Motor is out obviously...
Hi
Im pretty sure that the resistor is only for low speed and straight 12volt would give you the fast speed, you should be able to check this by looking
at the wiring. You could try an igition ballast resistor to see how that affects the slow speed.
