Any why does it have a hole at the bottom rear right corner (just to the right of the oil pump)?

Its probally a universal case... has the 3 mount points as well,... the hole is for use in a type 3 situation.

Easier to make one case fit all 3 cars... T1, T2 and T3 in the later years of Type 3s say around mid 71 to the end in 73.

I just put one in my 68 beetle, 71-73 is correct. For some reason they came with a 34 pict-4 carb, i'm not sure what the difference with the pict-3 is apart from fuel cutoff(i think).
They also put AD cased engines in the GT beetle.
