Leaky Carby
karmannghia60 - April 2nd, 2003 at 08:59 PM

When the car is parked on an incline (nose up tail down) the carby leaks like a seeve. What's wrong with it, float?

Sounds like it Raf. I'd say a leaky float valve, or a bit of sh*t stuck in it jamming it a little bit open.

Park it down hill instead!!!:D

I do:P

Check your float level. :)

They also leak from the bushing that the spindle goes through.
The 34's are bad for this.

Be very very careful - it will be dripping almost straight on to the dizzy!!!

Spark and petrol.:cry

You're right. Most of the leak is from there but only if the car is parked on an incline so that's why I am assuming the float or the float needle and not stopping the petrol from flowing

Do your self a favour and change it - quickly!

if it is leaking at the bushing it is stuffed.

Rimco in the states can change em - maybe CSC @ Burwood in Sydney but it will be big money.

Either swapo and change 2nd hand ones that DONT leak , shell out for a new one or whack a Weber on there

I have a pair of Kads that I will be using as soon as I replace the single port heads

I would be looking at the needle valve that shuts the fuel off. As they get old, they get sloppy & may go sideways & jam eg when you park on a incline. As for the throttle spindle leaking, the fuel that leaks out has to come from from the bowl so if you stop the bowl overflowing that should stop it.

I have a leaky carb problem with my Beetle.

Well, it doesn't really leak in a drippy way, but sorta like weeping...the carb body would be damp, covered in petrol.

Is this something to do with the fuel pressure into the carb? I use a fuel filter between the fuel pump and the carb.

Any pointers?

Cheers.

change the needel and seat in the top of the carby and all will be better
take the air filter of take the fuel line of indo the screws holding the top on the carby and there you will see the needle and seat its the thing at the end of where the fuel line goes
