interested to know if anyone has purchased one of the mexican motors advertised on the back of VMA -supplied by mickmotors and others.
Are they anygood?
How much do they cost?
Any problems to look out for.
Also regarding 2litre motors into bettles(mine is a 70 model)
What would one expect to pay for a good motor plus all the conversion bits and pieces.
Want something reliable but a bit more power than my tired 1600 which is in at the moment.
Appreciate any info
When you say 2L do you mean kombi Type 4 in a beetle?? or do you mean a bored out 1600 Type 1?
My motor is a 1916 (94 barrels in a standard 1600)
Everything is stock except for a mild cam.
Stock carb etc
Gives 25% more power than stock.
Nice simple set up that has reasonible poke for not much more than a standard rebuild.
How much - some where from $1500 for a 2nd hand 1776 long block to $8k plus for a drive in drive out Pobjoy special
The "new" motors would be ok but dont expect any power gains out of them.
They come with a cast crank and i "think" flywheel which may limit there usefullness in some eyes
Hope this is a starting point for ya
Does anybody else have an opinion on the Mexican motors 'cause I interest in this too.

Give em a call
Then you will know the exact price and not a guess??
It will cost a fair bit to fit a 2 liter I presume you mean type 4, into a beetle as you have to convert the tinware to an upright, I think Sherman
kits are about ( and this is a guess as the last time I got a price was 5 years ago) is about $650. Then you have to pay for the motor which could
cost anything up to a couple of grand for a good one or even about 4 grand for a recon one??
You might find one cheap but you would not know the condition and it might last years or minutes???
Then you need to cut the body a bit for it to fit as it is wider, also type 4 motors are a bit more expensive to repair, ect.
I would recommend a nice 1916 or 1776, as mentioned above, a lot cheaper and as fast.

I've already inquired about the price, it's about $2300 + freight(I presume) . I'd have to add on another couple hundred for full flow and sand seal kits. Would want to go full flow, I think it's the best improvement you can make to extend the life of the standard type 1 motor
Considering you get new
*case
*heads
*P&Cs
For that money its good value
I assume its all std/std
