2.5 i think, then you adjust from there by listening to the revs...

Does the 30 pict have an air screw? I thought only that heathen 34 pict had one of those.
If u r referring to the volume control screw, i think u turn it clockwise till it seats LIGHTLY then back it off about 1.5 turns. Start up & warm it up then turn it in till the eng idle speed dies then out till it only just picks picks up speed again. Then re-set the idle speed screw to the idle speed u want. I lurve those old carbies! Esp my beloved 28pci on my SC

With 3 carbs (all 34 Pict-4's) on 3 different motors (1600 - 1640) I've found the idle mixture screw to always require more turns out than the manual says, generally over 3, to a bit over 4, instead of the supposed 2.5 - 3. (Earlier carbs recommended less turns out.)
You'll hear when it's happy. Too lean: speed drops. Screw it out- speed increases. Keep going & speed drops as mix becomes too rich. Can set for max. speed, or slightly in from that point.
Don't set idle mixture too lean!

There is No stock position all engines will vary slightly

If you have over haulled the carby then screw it out bout 3 full turns for start up then allow the engine to warm up and adjust as per above

basically id just been adjusting on feel of the engine revs.

was just wondering where the books say it should be from the factory as a light guide line.
