Whats a safe speed to sit on the freeway at. its a 1.8 twin carb kombi oh and its a 4 speed manual. the thing is ive got a hell of a lot of travelling to do (all the way round the coast of oz and back to perth) and dont want to fcuk it up. a friend of mine said do 80 kmh but it seems to sit on a tonne easy, he said if i do 100kmh it wont last long:bounce

My PERSONAL OPINION is 100kmh if the vehicle is in excellent condition

90 is usually good and easier on fuel ,the slower you go the easier it is on your van i guess

yeah i wouldnt be going much over 100

if its a Kombi thats been used by Back Packers then it will know the road itself cause most of them have been there 20 or so times before.

Well my Kombi has a new engine (2.4 litres) and a new gearbox, but I'm not driving up to Valla Park at more than 100 km/h. It will easily do 110 on the freeway, but the fuel gauge goes down while you watch it.

I think Boris, Dave, Leigh and Steve will leave me behind this year, lead-foots that they are. I will drive up there at leisure.

you dont won't to go too quick i got picked up for 127. and it was purring though. Damn Cops

They are a tough motor (except for the heads ), I tend to let the temp be my guide,
I sit on about 90 average, 110 down the hills and let it slow on the grades.
No pushing it.
At 100 on flats you will notice fuel consumption more, its just a matter of wind resistance.
Get used to touching the dip stick on fuel stops and Familiarize yourself with how hot it normally runs.
