hey all,

my oil light always comes on everytime i come to a stop after driving 80kmph+ (after freeway driving), i need to keep the revs up a little for it to go away. if i'm sticking to

Have you check the oil level when the car is flat and has been sitting fora few minutes ??? may need topping up

Bizarre - April 11th, 2006 at 07:48 AM

how hot is it getting???

ACE_76 - April 11th, 2006 at 08:48 AM

Slightly low idle speed? Make sure it's set to the upper end of the normal range, eg. ~900 rpm for late 1600. Idle can drop when eng gets very hot.

oil level is full.
its not getting too hot
low idle speed when it's hot...maybe

Is this bad for my engine in any way? will check my idle's next service

Sometimes my Beetle's oil light comes on, usually if I stop quite quickly.... the revs drop and oil light flickers, I think it's to do with oil pressure dropping. :)

it isnt GREAT news - if that is the answer you wanted.

Good news is it "could" be a faulty sensor. That is certainly on the cards

Bad news is it is also a sign of bearing trouble

Get it checked sooner rather than later

Could thickness of oil contribute?

i am currently feeding her straight 30

Check the oil pressure with a manual gauge that screws into the oil light position,
Sounds like you have low oil pressure, not good, is it a dual relief case?

I would also change the oil to a 20-50 multigrade oil, but thats just me.

dual relief case?? not sure what that is.

i am usuing straight 30 because that is what the person that built my 1916 engine told me to use it (had it built

The lights can come on at various pressures. eg. "2 - 6.5 psi" for late beetle, but maybe it varies more than this, depending on the individual pressure switch.
Is it possible that "crud" can build up behind the switch? Could carefully remove & replace it to check. (Should be tapered thread - don't use thread sealant/teflon tape!)
Could try one higher notch up the visc. scale, eg. if you like mono 30, try mono 40 - will be fine in Sydney. If you can find a good mongrade still. Mono 30 is most "like" 20W-40, and mono 40 is most "like" 25W-50 in composition, if want to try a multigrade.

Could be sensor. Bu tif you consult an original VW manual it says that the oil light comin on after a driving at speed, or something like that, is normal. My S used to do it, But that was usually after going @ 110km/h+ in hills for over an hour. Use multigrade oil. Please. Listen to the others.

Also, long shot. Smell your oil please. I'm a little worried your fuel pump is leaking or the fuel cutoff solenoid isn't all it could be.
