hey all,
my bug has got adjusters on the front beams and im pretty sure there sway aways
never touched them coz it always sat at a perfect height
but now i got new rims and tyres it needs lifting a tad
it was on 6" porsche fushs with 195/60s but now with 7" rims and 215/45 tyres its gonna rub
any sites on the net explain how to lift them?

To lift the car you need to adjust the tab on the adjuster up if it faces to the front, down if it faces to the rear. That puts more tension on the torsion bar and lifts the car.

Jack up the car by the chassis so that the wheels hang. That releases as much tension as you can on the torsion bars. Otherwise you will place unwanted strain on the nuts and bolts of the adjusters while adjusting them.

You may want to see if you have equal strength in your torsion bars by adjusting one fully up and the other fully down. Check the ride height after a short drive.Then reverse the adjustments and see if there is any difference in ride heights.

Adjust them equally to spread the loads equally

Easy! Looking at your pic, on each of the adjusters:

Loosen the top NUT (the locknut)
Loosen the botton NUT (the locknut).
Screw the botton BOLT in or out to adjust ride height (if you want to rauise the car, screw it in/up/clockwise)
Tighten all the NUTs again. Real tight!
Get wheel alignment

It is a good idea to spread the load over both adjusters/torsion bars: ie adjust both by a few mm or turns each time until you get the right ride height. The lower torsion bar should take a little more of the load but there is no real way of knowing this unless you want to strip your front end - so don't worry about it!

10minutre job - i think the allan key size is either 6 0r 8mm depending on brand of adjuster...
