ok this is bizarre
we just bought a 74 kombi the day we take delivery the indecators stop working...
when you select left or right the light on the dash lights up and stays on consantly
checked bulbs, all fine
right replaced flasher relay, i thought that would fix it nah
same thing
put on hazard and a couple of quick buzzes from relay then nothing and hazard light stays on consantly
any ideas?????? bad conection??????????
I have this problem every so often and it's usually because the battery is too flat (I.E: The generator belt loose)
-Staggers.
thats interesting.....
Check it out man, also do the headlights flare when you accellerate? (Headlights turned on).
-Staggers.
if headlights get brighter with rpm above 900rpm then your reg is fucked or wired wrong. Sometimes my indicators do the freeze thing, i leave them on and pull the hazard lights and for some reason that trips em and all is fine again. Might be worth cleaning up the connections etc.
Precisely.
-Staggers.
probably a bad connection somewhere.. do the indicators on the outside actually light up when the dash light comes on??
had this happen to me the other day.. found a loose connection, the flasher relay was not clicking till i found the bad connection.
good luck
All the copper connections were shiney when new, but after all these years, the copper becomes contaminated & with a loose connection , can become an
open circuit....
Even though the connectors are in place, they can still be an open circuit.... that is... no circuit...
Wet & dry, wire brush , sand paper - all can be used to brighten up the electrical connections...
If a connection is loose when its connected, pull the male spade connector out & gently squeeze the female connector , so that the male connector is
tight...
Don't forget the fusebox - regulator - battery lead to the chassis... take the lead off & polish under it, and also the part of the earth braid that
goes onto the body...
so the contact is Perfect.....
the earth braid between the chassis & the gearbox needs to be cleaned at both ends too....
Make sure You disconnect the battery first...
If You don't have time to do all that....
Just pull each connector apart & insert it a few times..
that will at least clean some of the connectors....
enough to keep You going...
