Fuel Line........ HELP!

I need to track down some fuel line for my beetle.
It needs to be 3/8 inch inside diameter and 580 to 590 thou outside diameter.
Ive tried Enzed, Supercheap & Repco. Haven't tried Pirtech as yet.
All of the fuel lines I've seen are around 60 thou o/d too big.
:duh
I need around 4 metres of the stuff, must be some out there somewhere....!!!!

It musn't be standard VW sized....
although I only use fuel hose bought from VW retailers...
Mick Motors has steel mesh braided fuel line....
but I don't think its 3/8" Internal Diameter... which is around 10mm....
I think VW hose is around 5/16" or 8mm ID,
AUTO ONE... ?? I thought ENZED would have them all...

Forgive my ignorance, but why such a tight spec on the OD? Does it need to fit through a specific size hole?

When I built the car, pan off full resto, I threaded the larger fuel line through the tunnel.
It's nice and tight fit.., unfortunately.
I wish I put a steel fuel in at the time!

i buy original cloth braided german stuff from the local dub shop and its 6mm/1/4" which is what all my standard bugs have been

Have you tried SPEEDFLOW,EARLS they do alloy tube or maybe
just bite the bullet & use braided & re-direct under the car,thats
what i done fits snugley on the recess where you bolt the shell
to the pan.

Hi Craig,
Are you talking about a metal line or a flexable rubber/ plastic type hose?
If that is a flexable line then you will struggle to find one that has a wall that thin other than the style that VW uses...which I think
Mick Motors sells as balance tube pipie for type threes and Kombis...although it it prob only 8mm ID. Its life is limited though and should not be in
the tunnel where it could leak or be hard to replace.
You may be better off using steel 1/2" OD steel tube and grommets on each end, or that teflon lined ($$$) tube that Bergs sell in a
smaller ID so that your OD still fits.
The teflon lined Braid should be available here in Aus somewhere and flows the same volube supposedly as the larger rubber based stuff.

Was considering teflon option, but reguardless of what the flow is, I won't go under 3/8 th ID.
The way I had the rubber line in there has lasted 10 years without any dramas, would still prefer to go in the tunnel!
I thought this job would be a pain, but not this much.!:repuke

Hey Craig
I used Pirtech's 'bundy' tubing with the stock ID. It fits in the retaining clips in the tunnel without much trouble (in comparasion to the whole
job - which is a pain int he ass). Make sure it's the steel bundy tubing too - you don't wanna be removing a brittle copper fuel line from your bug
in another 10 years!

I used the 3/8 steel bundy tube. Its 8mm ID, there were larger sizes than that as well. I got mine from coventry's.
