bajaben - May 3rd, 2006 at 10:09 AM

Need to know what years body is interchangable with what year floorpans. i have a 65 but am looking at a new body but later models are easier to find up here. any help would be appreciated. cheers.

As far as I know you just have to reposition the body mounts that are in the rear wheel arches. Superbugs & L bugs won't fit of course, but I think everything else will.
If noone else knows for sure ring a vw workshop before you buy anything.

As Sandy said.

I was enquiring earlier here when i was considering a body swap on an earlier baja i had, but the chassis wasn't worth it. Was informed that they could be swapped (excludin the superbugs and L bugs), however the body bolt under the wheel arch is eitehr a little big lower or higher, and needs repositioning.

might be able to find my old thread, will get back to ya on it, if i do.

So long as its a pan with front beam suspension they are all interchangeable. The rear mount on later pans (c'mon someone what year did they change? 67??) is higher so you will need to move an early body's rear mount upwards an inch or two, the one under the rear fenders. Reverse that if its a later body on early pan.

Dasdubber did a sticky on one way to reposition this mount:
