can anyone tell me if there is a counterweighted crank available for 1800 ,2ltr kombi engineand if 1800 and 2ltr cases are the same ,cheers ,jack.
Yep you can get em but you usually have to get em from the states, Mine was $480 US, you could speak to Wayne Penrose, Richard Holzl or Stan Pobjoy these guys could help you out, or go to http://www.type4store.com they have everything, 1800 and 2litre cases are the same.
heard from many sources that a type 4 crank doesn't flex like a type 1, so it will not clap out the centre main under 7500rpm. its the cam and valve train that need attention. what application is this for?
this motor is not big performance engine ,am just toying with the idea to build a bit stronger engine that revs a bit harder mainly on highway use ,tis bolted to an auto ,and have heard that autos are revving at around 4300 revs at 100 ks so dont want to flog out case if i run it at 110 ks on the freeway
you could get a 2Lt crank (71mm stroke) that will make it go a bit harder.
you could get it balenced lots cheaper and would make it rev savely my engine is balenced and revs over 6000 if you want it to but it just makes them smother running and last longer which is always nice
Stan Pobjoy has counterweighted cranks for Type 4's. I have just had my 1800 crank done by him, so I can post photo's soon.
The standard crank is good for 7000rpm, so really no need to worry if you are talking about 4500rpm.
Cases are the same !
I purchased most of my stuff from aircooled.net and am having Conti engines build it. here is the link to the crankshafts.
