Hi List,
If i jack up my early bus (57) i am able to rock the front wheels (top to bottom).
I don't know enough about k&l beams to diagnose the problem, and ideas on what this may be. is it shim-able, adjustable, or what should i do.
eventually i want to go the route of dropped spindles, so don't want to spend to much getting it sorted out untill then, but i have to take it over
the pits to be licensed.
cheers,
James
i had the same problem with my oval. could rock the front wheels top to bottom. I had to replace the king and link pins and the bushes.
I think places sell spindles with new pins and bushes but dont know the cost... if you can afford the dropped spindles now i would get them.
A new king and link pin set will set you back under $200 but then you have to get the new bushes reamed for a press fit for the new pins.
geez, sounds expensive...
who in oz can do the work?
r,
James
i got mine done by a local machining shop.. was not expensive but coz they are not quite square to the rest of the assembly they have to set them up
in a multiangle chuck - so this makes it a little time consuming to set one up... then the second is a straight ream.
Give them one of the new pins so that they know how much of an interference fit they need in the bushes. so you get a rough idea i paid just over
$100 for this work AND welding an adaptor plate into the top of my fuel tank for a fuel sender to be installed.
all of the rest of the work can be done by you if you have access to a bearing heater and a press.
It may just be the link pins - in which case, try loosening the link pin pinch bolts and tightening the link pin (turn it clockwise until the slack is
taken up) and then tighten the pinch bolt. My Member's Rides thread may be of help - it's near the bottom of page 3..

If you're getting dropped spindels soon, just do the link pin adjustment now and check the play in the link pin and bushes when the whole thing is
apart later.. A new link pin and bush set will set you back around $65...
Thanks all, will try the link pins, and if that fails, will have to start pulling it all apart!
cheers,
James
