What is the standard ride height/road clearance for a (1961) Beetle? Where and how do you measure it?

Yeah, way too high.
I guess the way you would find out would be to check out a manual or something.

In there is a scanned 1966 manual

It lists the ground clearance as 152mm

My manual states - Smallest ground clearence with car fully laden: 6".
but, the height (unladen), is 59" (1500mm). I'd mesure it from the ends of the running boards...

This would be more like it!
