Tuning Kombi stock dual carbies
Purple Martin - April 14th, 2003 at 09:47 AM

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I gave my '75 2L Kombi a pair of second-hand stock dual carbies. Installation went fine and it started easily! :D

Driving to work today it ran quite well overall. It spluttered a lot under load while still cold, and the idle speed seems quite fast even when warm.

Basically, I'd just like some advice on tuning the dual carbies without needing special tools (if that's possible) - my manual talks about using an air-flow meter but I don't have one. Is there another way of checking that they're balanced?

TIA!

Pull the wire of the fuel cutoff solenoids, one side at a time and compare how much the revs drop. :)

hehe, that's a great idea :D, and i'd try it too, except that only one side has a cut-off solenoid - the other side just has a brass bolt filling the hole :( .

Ok, it's late and I'm getting lazy,

It's a good idea to know what your doing before attacking these. Nothing too difficult, just a lot to go wrong if you are just fiddling. A good VW manual also will help a lot with stock settings.
Also don't forget the usual tune up, timing/dwell valves etc.

Let us know how you go.
