I have a kombi lined up to buy but my wife wants to know the fuel economy of it before she hands over the money to me.

So does anyone have a rough idea what sort of fuel economy a 2L kombi with a manual box would get? Just a rough idea is fine. If it is better than 17.5L/100kM then I am a shoe in.

from what i hear most stock 2L are good for around 12-14L/100km depending how loaded up they are
my 1600 beetle averages 10L/100km but i got a lead foot and its not compleltey stock

It should be better than the 17.5L/100kms round the city.

I have an auto 2L in a heavy vanagon (1982) and i get 16 round the city. Real stop/start short trip stuff.
I get 12 on the open road

i get average of 14L/100km around town (pretty hilly terain on northern beaches) for the last 6 months.

havent checked it on highway runs but am expecting around 11 or 12L/100km.

Yeah well the "truck" is a Pajero 4WD that I am using as a daily driver and work truck. I am getting it tuned up properly but another guy I know says even when tuned properly they are still very thirsty.

If you don't hammer it and use the torque, you'll get way better than 17.5. Just make sure you keep it tuned and serviced often. Well maintained, you'll get good economy and reliability. Consider that you'll be running premium unleaded, so that adds 10c a litre to the running cost over something boring.
