These adjustors(?) are different right and left side, in both the direction they face and the level they are set at.
What are they, and does this look "normal"?

type 3 pan?
nick
Looking at the pics again...
Looks like the same part used on both sides...??
Not a normal VW thing.....
I suppose the top one could work...
just a different way....
the bent bit at the flat end goes against a metal lip
on both sides which would stop them both from turning or undoing......
so they should both work....

These retainers act as both washer and trailing arm retainer in case of either tortion bar breakage or screw undoing, thus preventing the tortion arm
moving out of the bearings. They look like they are both in the correct position. The early type 3s had the retainer welded on.

Thanks all, this is on my Sabre kit, which I am led to believe is a 1971 Type3, balljoint front end IRS pan.
Being new to VWs, I just didn't know what they were. But if one beak (they look sorta like an eagles head to me) is meant to point toward the front
of the car (pic1) and the other towards the rear (pic2) then if this is correct, good.
Thanks guys.
Mick.
The problem being, I've still got a bit of noise when going over rough roads coming from the front left (pic2). I had Leons check it and they say
it's the bump stops hitting (the rubbers are gone). While I do get a noise that I believe is commensurate with that bump stop touch when I hit big
potholes or bumps, I still think there may be another, more "rattly", loose type noise coming from the front suspension. I have checked and
tightened all the steering bolts. I think, maybe, one or more ball joints could be US.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Mick.

Brenton, you're Sth'side Bris. If you have the time, could we organise me meeting up with you and giving you a drive of the car to see what you
think?
Thanks,
Mick.
