Fuel tank capacity.... who knows?

Can anyone tell me how many litres my 1960 beetle fuel tank will hold when full?

40 litres (8.8 imp gallons) from the up to 1960 manual I have which seemed standard capacity for both Bug as well as the Type 3 vehicles 61 on.

i had two tanks which i measured 40 litre capacity for... one from a 57 and one from a 65 beetle.

They were all 8.8 Imperial gallons capacity... 40 litres.

In cars without the fuel gauge, You drive with the fuel tank lever vertical, when You run out of fuel, You turn the lever to the Left 90 degrees and You have One gallon to get You to the nearest petrol station....

Those Beetles used to get around 40 Miles to the gallon..

8.8 imperial gallons = 40 litres
1 imperial gallon = 4.5 litres approx.

8.8 imperial gallons = 10.5 US gallons...
