New Beetle Central Locking Probs
Teliko21 - June 21st, 2006 at 04:50 PM

Hi everyone,

I have just bought a secondhand Beetle from a private seller and the drivers door doesn't lock/unlock with the remote. Another thing I have noticed is tha tputting the key in the driver's door will unlock all doors but not lock them.

Also, the light on the dash that indicates an open door flashes in intermittently even when all doors are definitely closed.

Could anyone please suggest to me what could be causing it and any ideas about repair cost? There isn't really a dealer within easy enough driving distance to take it down for them to look at it and diagnose the problem. TH eprevious owner has suggested it might be the motor in the driver's door for the central locking.

Any advice greatly appreciated :)

sounds like it could be the drivers door locking motor... however, the fact your door open light comes on intermittently could also mean that one of the door sensors is playing up and telling the central locking that the door is open so not to lock the door.
For more info or help you could try http://www.newbeetle.org  its an american site but has plenty of info on problems with the new beetles and fixes people have had done or done themselves.
hth.

Didnt Andrew (Vanderaj) have some documentation re extended warranty for 7 years because of some latent defects on the new beetle??

I remember he had no end of trouble with his Turbo beetle but got a lot of things fixed after warranty??

Might have only applied to window winder troubles??

I will start searching

i think that did relate to the window regulator problems that the new beetles seemed to be plagued with early on.
