Hi - a newbie here with a question ! With the accelerator pedal flat on the floor there is still a bit of movement left at the carbies ie the cable does not open the carbies all the way, so my bus is sluggish. The cable is fairly tight and looking at the pedal end I don't really see anything i can adjust. Anyone got any ideas please !!!! - as you can probably tell I am not that very mechanical . thanks for any help i can get. cheers Russell Perth WA
IF you are out of adjustment you can do what I have done and use a bit of fence wire/coat hanger etc and clamp it in the linkage end, then hose clamp
the cable at the desired length to the wire.
Cheap and nasty and works fine.
My cable is the wrong length and this is what I have done.
Good luck
Check your pedal linkages under the accelerator pedal. I had the same problem due to wear as well as the pedal mounting bracket lifting from the
floorpan due to a spotweld having let go. Pinched a new hinge from my gate and bolted it up...fanny's your aunty! But seriously if the linkage is
fine (not too likely) then the adjustment is in the engine bay where the cable meets the throttle linkage.
Cheers, T
if the cable is fairly tight then you can't really approach the problem from the engine end. you will probably find on inspection that the linkage under the accelerator pedal is the culprit. usually the hole in the long rod which attaches to the linkage is elongated to find a rod with a round hole on a used bus would be exceptionally lucky maybe remove the rod get it welded and re drilled and buy a new linkage as it is also probably very worn. if you are getting 9/10 throttle opening you will probably not achieve much more power, by fixing it, you will probably find that your twin solexes need a rebuild + all the other things plugs points timing tappet clearance should also be checked replaced etc.
it might just be the throttle linkages on the carbies... if they arent adjusted right, then no matter how much you tug on the accelerator cable, you are never gonna be able to open them all the way :thumb
