Front strut problem
ancientbugger - June 24th, 2006 at 04:45 PM

One of my cabs front struts seems to build up pressure to the point where it becomes solid-is this fixable or is it a replacement job? In all my time when a shock stuffs up it loses its damping ability not the other way 'round!

I am guessing it is more scoring/bent/sticking??

What ever - just change them over.

New strut inserts are relatively cheap - get some Boges or Sachs

It's only been like it the past couple of days and it never gets abused (I've got the buggy for that!) but I thought I'd ask anyway.

So your saying there is just NO downward movement???

ancientbugger - June 24th, 2006 at 08:19 PM

Yes. If I leave it overnight I can push it down and it works perfectly but after a few up and downs it's like it builds up pressure and then becomes solid and wont move on the spring.

one of the "valves" inside must be acting as a "one way" valve and slowly leaking when left

Like a normal shockie there are valves inside that let the oil move around. It is these valves that give the shock/strut its characteristics

Replacement will be easiest

tightened down the strut bolt and it helped a bit, but the noise came back. i think it is strut related, but not sure of the exact cause. im planning on getting new shocks and struts this summer hoping that it will solve the problem (and give me better handling).or maybe have you check the shock and strut mount if there were any broken part

ancientbugger - January 8th, 2011 at 09:01 PM

That was so long ago ! I think I just bought new inserts.
