OK, i've done a Bay window gearbox swop, which isnt too difficult because you can take both driveshafts off, but how much more difficult is it on a
splitty?
Do i need any special tools (there's a big nut on the rear wheel, yes?) and are there any "gotcha's" which are gonna bugger me up on the day?!
Sam
man, its alot different, you have to take the the whole rear end out..reduction hubs, gearbox and all...not too bad though, you can do it...!!! no special tools needed, the usual metric tools + a 36mm (?) for an older splitty or a 42mm (?, double cheack these sizes) socket for the newer split..and lots of patents..and a mate whos done it before helps...good luck man...oh and make sure the box your putting in is sweet before you go changing them over...i know this first hand..it hurts to find out youve changed the box for another one that pops out of second aswell...
how the hell do you check if the new one is in good nick (ive think its been overhauled but cant check)
my current one pops out of reverse and the synchromesh is gone on everything else... to get first you have to be a bit of a masochist!
