Does anyone have plans, or info on how to make on of these from bits found at a local dick smith/jaycar?
Thankyou muchly
an INVERTER works on 12 volts DC and makes it into 240 Volts AC..
What did You want it for?
Stereo... system??
I don't think there is anything that can make 6v into 12 volts DC...
transformers only work on AC... NOT DC...
There are DC Converters that change 24 Volts DC down into 12 volts DC..
that doesn't help You though...
I think You need to change Your car to 12 volts...

Not correct 68auto dude,

However the conversion to 12v is the better solution unless you are keen on keeping 6v for your 100 point resto.
Try Jaycar too they have stuff like that

Actually, this Bug has already been restored and is runing perfectly (almost) well on 6v bar one thing.
The 6v auto choke heater element is long gone. I have found a replacement 6v bit, but its a bit pricey.
Also, it would just be fun to make one of these. Anyone think they can help me from the directions at
http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/6-12conv.htm
put out a call for one here, save you all the stuffin around
there is nothing complicated in that little cct ,just grab a bit of breadboard and tear into it should take you about 15mins ...one thing tho i doubt that it will survive as i think the current draw is >.8A unless you upgrade the o/p tranny and 4004:beer:beer:beer
i will have one for sale soon because i`m converting to 12volt
I've got one if you want to buy one ready made. Very period too. About 1960 s'thing.
I've actually already got one (for the stereo), but I thought it might be fun to make one.
Take that circuit diagram from aaroncake down to your local Dick Smiths and they will be more than happy to help. Only problem I can envisage is the 'custom' inductor. And increase the caps if 0.8A draw is a bit iffy for your usage.
collector I in bc547may be ~ perhaps 2n3055would stand more abuse :beer:beer:beer
Better current handling, good call.
