maximum tyre size for bay window?
megalania - August 2nd, 2006 at 07:55 PM

Hi guys and gals,
I currently have 225/50 R16 92h rubber on the front of my bus (76) and 225/60 R16 98h on the back and there is super minimal clearance on the back, and going by the sheen on the tyres I guess they are rubbing (currently restoring). What would be the maximum size that I could put on a standard height bay window bus that would not rub the guards? I have attached a pic of my bus. I am thinking of maybe going back to standards. Should I?

The wheel offset is more likely the problem. If the wheels you have fitted have an offset well outside the standard specs for a Kombi, it won't make any difference which tyres you use. After 1970, standard ET is 41mm. Find the ET stamp on your alloys and compare.

thanks VWMA editor, I will check them asap

ok checked the rims and all I could find was a stamped code of I U 41. Is that a 41mm offset? There were no other stamps on the rims.Is there anywhere in particular I should look?

It should be stamped ET with a number following. My alloy rims have the ET stamped on the outside near the wheel studs.

I've got 225/60/16 with ET 35 and have about 10mm clearance to trailing arm and body...perfect!

How do the front wheels fit on the rear? Maybe a slightly lower profile will clear a bit better.

We have 205/55/16 on our bus and they are perfecto
