I've wacked a second hand 1600tp into my Karmann; compression is good (140-150psi)
but it seems to be using excessive oil. Also white smoke from the exhaust when given moderate throttle. Motor is quiet (no untoward noises) and feels strong; do I just live with it??

Sure do unless you wan tto spend $2000 and recondition it.

Probally sounds like worn Valve guides. My 1500 does the same thing... you could try a heavier grade oil...

Make sure you check the oil level regularly
