Should a kombi horn work when the ignition is OFF?
Purple Martin - April 23rd, 2003 at 03:30 PM

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of untangling the mess that a PO made of my kombi's wiring. As far as I can tell from looking at the diagram in my manual, the horn should only work when the ignition is on. Is this right? My horn (and some other stuff like wipers) works even with the ignition off.

TIA

Ignition on sounds like your fuse box wiring is confused

That's what I was afraid of. And the wiring under the dash looks like someone puked 15yo spagetti everywhere :-(

Check that your fuses are only powered when they are supposed to be. That would make a whole lotta things play up. :)

Incidently, I don't know how clever you want to be, but.... you know how when you have your wipers on and turn the ignition off, the wipers park mid-screen? One of the wires to the wiper motor should be power for the parking function (so that when you turn them off they keep going until they have returned to the parking position). This wire can be connected to a permanent power source so that the wipers self-park even if you turn the ignition off. :)

Yeah I think the fuses are powered OK... from memory, the 3 on the right only come on when the ignition is on, the 6 on the left are for the driving lights, the 4th from the right is spare, and the rest are permanent... is that it?

Great idea about the wiper parking, when I redo the wipers I'll use that.
