Ok dizies swaped, (thanks Joel and Anthiron) made sure both motors were in similar stroke / firing position before removal and refiting but when
fitting the new dizie it seems that it is 180 deg. out, its the only way I can line up the drive dogs on the bottom, is this normal, is it simply a
case of change the leads around now, havn't tried to fire it up yet in case I have a problem I can't see.
Thanks in antisipation
don
thats a real easy mistake to make
it can be real trick specially if the last engine rebuilder didnt clock the dissy drive correctly
heres how to do it assuming the dissy drive is fairly close to right postion
first spin ur motor over till its at #1 top dead center
should be a big dimple in the outter pulley rim like so get that pretty close to the case joint

then have a look to see if the dissy drive is like this with the smaller segment closest to the pulley and it should be perpendicluar with the case
joint

if its only alittle bit off dont worry to much
most of mine are at 2oclock postion
then slot the dissy in and rotate the body till the rotor is pointing at the little mark in the rim which is #1 firing point
then hook ur leads up like so:

then all u gotta do is time it
hope this helps

Cripes Joel, your a mine of info, reckon I'll move to Lismore and buy ya a beer, thanks heaps.
Good mate of mine lives in Lismore, he's down in Newie this weekend and we had a couple red drinks together last night, he lives in Ganoolabah or
some such suburb, thanks again.
Sheez a goa, thanks Joel, had to change the leads to different positions in the cap but once I had that figured out started first go, that 2 oclock tip was exactly what I had so all in all great directions, now all I have to do is get the timing spot on and all will be aok, bloke I bought it off told me it had a "mild cam" so that will probably change the timing from what it would be if it was stock.
hey donn thats good to hear
10 years of playing around with vws has taught me a few tricks
generally mild cams wont affect the timing at all just time it like standard
