Guys trying to do some retro fitting of a wiper motor using the normal 2 speed VW switch. Would this be simply powered up and conected to the wiper
motor or should there be a relay or fuse somewhere and if so what would be its inline configuration?
Thanks, Andrew
VW do their own thing with wiring...
Two speed wiper motor.. Connections
30 wire power to the switch thru a fuse..
53b needs to be earthed from the switch...
Wiper motor connections are usually marked.. 53 53a 53b etc
You just need to hook it up to the switch...
to check out the circuit diagram
look up http://vintagebus.com
on the LHS click on Wiring Diagrams
then go down past all the Bus wiring diagrams until You come to 1968-69 wiring diagram
click on the button
go to the RHS of diagram and You will see how to hook it up - switch to wiper motor... fairly simple..
the VW wiper switch is heavy enough to use without a relay... although one can be used...
cheers

The power wire into the switch should come from the fusebox therefore it will be fused. It wont need a relay. If you are using a 2 speed switch and a
2 speed wiper motor there should be no problem?? If you mean a 2 position switch you will only have high OR low speed. You also have the constant
power wire for the auto park mechanism. Might take a few tries to get it the right!
What switch and motor are you using?
It shouldn't matter what switch and motor...
as I wire all VW wipers up this way...
1968-69 wiring diagram is great...

Just remember NOT to start the wiper motor up when holding the wiper assembly in Your hands...
You will probably get Your fingers caught under the linkage...
and when you turn it off... it doesn't Stop...
it will self park....
usually on Your Finger.....
Has happened to many people.... [Me included]
You will need to use the VW Wiper switch for an easy installation.. and with two speeds and self parking...

Tried to make it as easy as possible so I am using a 2 speed dash switch from a Type 3 and a wiper assembly from a Bay Kombi. When testing the motor
to see if it worked I saw it was body earthed and the 2 wire connectors were for the 2 speeds, so pretty straight forward, just wasnt sure further up
to the switch.
Thanks guys for help and wiring diagram.
have a look at

scroll down to the 'windshield wipers' section, lots of useful info there

I wondered why I was getting so confused with the wiring diagrams..........4 wires on the wiper motor??? Mine only had 2, the speed wires, the other 2 had been snipped off. I think Im on the right track now. :thumb
