g'day peoples,

Um I just bought a 68-69 beetle and it has had a single exhuast pipe put on it, and the 2 divits where the original pipes came out have put fibreglassed up .

Can anyone firstly tell me why someone has done this, what is the benefit, and

secondly what will it take to undo this. i want my twin pipes back. I take it i will need new manifolds as the ones on it now all come into one. although the muffler and tail pipe do unbolt underneath in about the centre on the car.

So i was wondering do i have to get a new muffler with the 2 tail pipes. any suggestions would be appreciated.

also, what do i do about the rear panel that has had its divits plugged up. can i just replace that little panel that goes from the bottom of the engine bay to the exhaust or what.????

You have extractors and and a muffler fitted (2 pieces) instead of the stock exhaust system ( 1 piece).
The extractors should give you a little bit more power, and possibly a better sound, depending on your point of view.
The previous owner would have covered up the small divots because having fitted the extractors, probably didn't like the look of the divots not doing anything and thought the smooth look was better, again a matter of opinion.
To replace the stock exhaust, is just a matter of unbolting the extractors and muffler, and bolting on a new stock muffler.
If the divots have been fibreglassed up you cab probably just smash it out (cut?), sand it back to the metal profile, which I take it is still underneath, and touch up the paint.

I have to admit you can't beat the original muffler for that beautiful noise. Fweem I think they call it.

I'd say depending on the quality of the extrators fitted the power increase would be marginal anyway. Go for the original.
