anyone have a proceedure for window rubber (outboard scraper) removal and replacement

Not a difficult job, just fiddly and time consuming. Beetle I aasume? Been many years since i did mine, but as far as I can recall:

The rubber strip is riveted to the aluminium trim, which lines the outside base of the rubber on the door. The trim runs up the rear of the window frame and across the top. You have to take the whole thing out.

To do that - you have to remove the inside door handles, so you can remove the door panel, so can remove the plastic sheet, so you can remove the window winding mechanism, so you can remove the glass, so you can remove the rubber and felt window guide strip, so you can remove the aluminium trim and rubber wiping strip!

And as they say in the manual, assembly is a reversal of this procedure.

The rubber is available 2 ways

attached to a new chrome strip or seperatly requiring re riviting to your old strip

can you therefore remove the chrome and not replace it, just rivet the new scraper

No you need the moulding...

however you can de chrome it like i did on my Orange Smoothieeee

I removed the rubber and had the chrome alloy or stainless ( in my case) surround 2 pak painted in flat black
so as to match the rubber when the new outer scraper was installed.

The scrapper is rivet to the surround n the surround clips into the door stopping water getting into yr car.
