Okay so I recently had to put another gearbox in the 73 single cab. Now prior to a shaft in the gearbox letting go it was driving well with no
slippage and when I pulled the motor out there was no noticeable oil around the clutch etc.
So I get hold of a replacement and change over the bell housing and mounts etc so all is fine. I then put it all back together and go for a drive and
the clutch is slipping really bad. The free play in the pedal is fine and there is not much left of adjustment on the clutch cable (probably
stretched) though I dont think this effects the slippage.
When cold it doesnt slip too much, but as soon as it warms up it slips heaps.
I am guessing I will be taking the engine out and changing the cutch, but am just a bit suspicious that it may be something else, given that I just
changed over the gearbox..
Anyone have any ideas.

There may be freeplay in the cable M8 but the release bearing may still be riding on the clutch and holding it.
See how much freeplay you have on the actual release arm. Dun worry about the cable or the pedal.
This may reveal something.
This could be for a variety of reasons, perhaps the release bearing has come away from the forks. Or its some kind of funky release bearing (if you
changed it).
Either way, engine out for you. What a christmas present!!

Hmmm I didnt change the release bearing, it changed over complete with the bell housing. But I guess that will become apparent when I pull the motor
out

Could it be that you have the clutch plate in back to front? I'm trying to remember here, so I may be wrong. Would that make the spined part push on the throw out bearing?
Okay so I did what most of us would do on Boxing day and pulled the motor out to find that the clutch/ bellhousing was contaminated with oil and the
pressure plate was stuffed. I traced the oil leak to the input shaft oil seal so will now have to replace that- which I have never done before. Would
places like Mick Motors have those ??
I have a spare good clutch to put back in- but given I dont have the seal, I will have to wait anyways.
Hopefully this will fix the problem- any issues I should avoid.
Yeah, Micks should have the input shaft seal. I replace this seal whenever I change a gearbox, as it's a very cheap seal and a pain to pull the
engine later (as you have found).
To get it out I found the best way was to screw a wood screw into it, put vice grips onto the screw and yank it out. If you use a screw driver to
remove it then just be careful you don't damage the input shaft surface or seal recess surface in the gearbox.
Once out check the seal lip actually looked worn. If it looked ok but leaked the problem might have been elsewhere. Check the pilot shaft bearing
that's recessed in the crank. It supports the input shaft and ensures it runs true in the center of the seal.
Check the input shaft looks ok and has a good running surface for the seal.
That's about it
