hi guys, i just found that the floor pan of my new beetle is almost completely rusted on the passanger side. its a 70 model i think, well swing axle rean and ball joint front with discs and its a 1500 and its a greeny colour. and i was wondering what the options are. i haven't got the cash to buy a whole new floor pan. can you just but floor pan halves and bolt them in or is it all going to have to be welded.
weld in.
depending how bad it is you can weld in sections of the new pan half, but if its pretty bad, weld in the whole half.
so that would mean i would have to grind the whole old half out. how expensive are floor pan halves? and where can you get them from? the people i got it off bought it off a vw shop up here 5 years ago and its been garaged since then. and the floor pan way bogged under the rear seat. sounds like a bit of a dodge job to me. worst quality vw specialist ever.
From my experience floorpan halves cost around the $250 - $270 mark depending on the model and obviously where you get them from.
I recently had both my sides done. Both welded in which required the body off the pan. Im told you can do it leaving the body on, but it makes sense
to have it off and ensure that not only is the job done properly, but any other issues that arise can be dealt with too.
I decided that this wasn't an area to muck around with as so much of the cars strength is in the pan...getting it done properly was more important
than cost.

Should be around $120-$140 for the half. Depends who you buy from I guess.
try Mick Motors he will be closest to you I imagine, with good service and price.
If its only the section under the seat you may be able to leave the body on and just weld in a section.
Hard to tell without pix.
