I know i have posted this before but i have new information and want to get it confirmed by my fellow auusie vee dubbers. I have a type 3 dual port
that i want to go into a 1973 bus. Can it be done? i have heard of an upright conversion kit, is this a possibility and how much?
basically what am i up for to get this bluddy thing in and running.
Can you help me?
cheers
Does the 73 bus have an engine in it?
If yes you can use all the tinware including fan housing and generator etc and convert the engine to an upright fan.
If you dont have an engine in it, this is what you need, everything from a 1600tp beetle engine.
You also need the front and rear tin pieces from a late 1600 bus, as they are different to beetle.
You will need to block off the oil filler hole in the case (can get a dipstick adapter for it), and remember to run your oil pressure switch wire off
the cooler as the T3 case is not tapped for it at the normal beetle position.
You could make a linkage and keep the twin carbs, or otherwise use the single 34 off the bus engine (if you have it).
Thats about it...
If you need the engine number on the Type 3 engine for regestration purposes dont for get it will be under the fan housing after you have done the
upright conversion
so you may want to have it re stamped into the casing like a 1600 upright engine
