I've ordered a new Frame Head from Mick Motors today and thought I'd do some other work to the floor pan while I 'waited'. Where
the battery sits, has really rusted away, like there's nothing left, it's non-existant. The other side isn't much better. Are there
replacement panels avaliable, where I can cut out what I've got, and then weld in the new part(s)?

you should SERIOUSLY consider a pan swap.
You can get replacement panels of varying size and quality.
You will not get German thickness (meant in the nicest possible way)
You would be better off getting Good Brazilian pans welded into a body off pan and POR15-ing it.
If you have that much in the frame head, floors etc wahht are the heater chanels like?

sounds like you need a new floor pan half...
Dave, I don't need a complete half. I just need to replace the hole, the size of a battery, under the back seat. There must be small panels that
are avaliable that can be welded in ,in the usual place the pans rust out. Should I give Mick Motors a ring?

That panel section used to be available but it may not be as big as the actual hole you have in the pan.
from your description taht is
Try Micks and try Vintage as well.
Or you could fabricate one from sheet metal as that section is only flat under the battery...
you may have to go out further that you first thought in order to find good metal to weld the new section to.

My 1302 has had large sections of the floor pan replaced on the drivers side with sheet steel. Not my preferance, but done before I got the car. 2
Square section have been replaced, 1 under the battery, and one in front of this, all the way up to the back of the seat runners!!!!!
So it can be done. It doesn't look as tidy as it doesn't have the ripple type pattern as the orignial floor pan, but for most people
it's under carpet anyway... depends if you want a daily driver that goes or a show stopper that wins "best of"
Or find another stuffed beetle and rob it of the appropriate pan piece you need, if it's still good (I even had a good one, but no room to store
it 
doh!!)

I've got this sheetmetal that I cut up and use for all sorts of patching up(my car is not as bad as it sounds, hehe). Its no that difficult to
get from a sheetmetal trader, any sheetmetal place should have lots of thicknesses and should be able to cut a peice of the right size.

I ordered my Frame head today from Mick Motors and asked if they had quarter sections of floor replacement panels. They did and they're $37.00
per section, so I ordered 2, one for each side.
All I do now is to cut out the rusted sections and weld in the new. Easy when you say it quick.
