problems with my motor (1916)
steve-89 - February 27th, 2007 at 08:27 PM
hey, been having some problems with my engine lately,
not sure wat seems to be the problem, but i have had several new exhausts put on it and either of the seem to make any difference, EG: when i got the
motor i bought it off the forum from a guy in QLD, he said it was fine and also said it was a big boar.
the motor its self has 40 delloretto"s and a lumpy cam,
Irecently went out and spent $330.00 on an empi extractor and muffler kit i got it home and fitted it, When i started it, the motor backfires and
sounds like the air cant get out,
Ialso bought an exhaust prior to that and got the same effect,
both systems are really noisy and sound really bad.
Is this something to do with my motor, like, is it out of tune or is it something to do with the exhaust pipe being to small in diameter,
]
can some one tell me wat the possibilitys are that it is something to do with my exhaust before i go out and blow big money on a custom one.
cheers steve

sounds more like you have a blocked pilet jet and fuel problems.

spark leads on the right plugs??
It doesnt sound like the exhaust
Worst case the motor would run without an exhaust - VERY loudly but "fairly" smoothly

didnt drop a washer or a nut into a port when you were taking the old system off did ya???
did you do a comp test b4/when you got the donk?
how long did the car you put the motor in sit for before the transplant??? could be stale/ dirty fuel
id start from scratch plugs, points, timing, rocker clearance, drain fuel bowls, clean and check dizzy cap, check carb linkage compression, etc all
cheap and will only benefit motor anyway

FAST - fuel, air, spark, timing (valve and ignition)
If it has all these in the correct sequence, it will work!

sounds like it needs rejetting
free flowing exhausts often require fiddling with the jet sizes
especially the idle jets
