Opaque - March 3rd, 2007 at 07:34 AM

just wondering what is involved in converting the type 3 square into a ragtop, as what amount of work is needed and a ballpark figure on the budget.ive seen a couple and i have just fallen in love with ragtop squares

The hard part is getting one.

Dont know if they were a VW option though.

There are 2 types (generally) for rags
Golde's
Britaxs

Goldes are much dearer and generally better. A rough clip top would cost $1k then it needs to be repaired and installed.
These are welded in and structurally solid.

The Britax cost roughly 1/2 the Golde and are cut in and clamped/screwed.
As such they are no structural

Some one was selling a Type 3 Britax about a year ago.
Dunno if it ever sold. Youcould be lucky.
Do a search for Britax in Selling Parts and go digging

Also, look for a ragtop out of a 70's jaguar XJ6, as they'e a reasonably similar size and shape.
