can someone pls explain to me why a 4 into 1 system is better than twins or cannons on a vw motor??? what is merged and what is semi merged.
educated responses pls no my mates best friends aunty runs a .....
what motor do you run what have YOU tried on it/them(sizes brands lengths etc)and what have YOU noticed ?
also mufflers vs stingers
what would you run on your motor if there were no legal restrictions
this is fully merged

this is semi merged
http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=387
the collector in the fully merged is longer and "extracts" the gasses better
the reason the cannons are no as good is you only have 2 gasses extracting - not 4 working together
VERY simple explanation
Additionally - if you look at the merged the firing order at the collector is 1-2-3-4
Giving a good twist as it goes out
Most if you look at them are 1-4-2-3
Not as good for extraction
As the gasses enter the collector, they leave a area of low pressure behind each pulse. Bu having all four pulses going into the collector they cause
suction for the next pulse and there almost suck the next pulse of gas out. This therefore lower resistance......
as stated above a 4 into 1 allows each pulse ot pull the next, while cannons only work on one side....
Personally a semi merged is good (i also got the weld all fixed up and port out the collector) and a nice fully merged is the best..

There's good info at the above links. It really is difficult to go into great detail about exhaust theory but those links provide an insight.
Personally I've used stock, semi merged and merged. Merged is the best choice for power but semi merged generally gives a wider spread of power.
If there were no legal restrictions I'd run a high flow muffler because a stinger is way to loud on the street, believe me I've tried it, I lasted
about a week. I got sick of it before the cops got me.
