Sorry, loved Hedland (Broome was a mere 600k, or a short drive, away,) but my boss was a qualified &*#hole, so I took a job in Kal. The VW guy in Port Hedland is apparantly pretty good, but his employees reckoned he s&%ked and I never tried him. If you get desperate, Hedland Dyno Tune (forgotten his name at the moment) are pretty whiz at VWs, stock; I had to give some tips on some modifieds (even though he ran a mud buggy with a VW in the past, and has a beetle ute he wouldn't sell me for a good price!) He's a bloody good mechanic, though, and he'd figure anything out eventually (wish there were more like him still about.)

You could always try doing it yourself. It's not that hard to do the basics. There is plenty of info both on this site and elsewhere on the net.

If you do decide to do it yourself, get a good manual.

Broome has gorgeous beaches, tropical resorts, open air nightclubs, a fantastic market, and far too many junkies and hangers-on! Lovely place for a quiet holiday, not so good for living (unless you're a world-famous writer or such.)
