over the last week i have been noticing that the clutch take up point getting closer to the floor. Also it is no longer returning to the top after i
have pushed the clutch in, mabye only 1/2 way back up. Has anybody had this problem? any ideas?
Iam going hunting, and assuming that if i back off the cable and it goesd slack the problem is the clutch itself, while it i back it off lever at the
gearbox moves its the cable.
Have you tried taking up any slack in the cable by adjusting it?
Maybe the cable is freyed and stretching?
Chech to see if the clutch arm lever thing on the box hasnt broken a spring and is returning properly.
Check to see the arm isnt broken (actually saw this on a kombi today - it can happen)
theres not much adjustment left in the cable. Just had a look, and it seems that the problem is in the cable or peddle assembly. So iam going t put a new cable in just to be sure and go from there. Is there anywhere in the peddle assembly that could be causing problems?
Bix, does sound like the cable.
I had a similar problem on the Kombi a while ago, replaced the cable, but had to keep adjusting it.
what had happened is the arm the cable attached to on the gear box was split and kept jumping one tooth. Not very common though, but not hard ro check
for. (At lease it's easier than pulling the GB like I did to find the problem!!)
Bix,
When you install the new cable, also check the "hook" on the pedal for excess wear. I've seen a few break the hook off, usually at the
worse possible moment!
wheres the access panel for the peddle assembly? is it on top of the tunnel?
just going to put a new cable in and grease the peddle cluster.
Unless someone has cut a hole there is no access plate. Just remove the entire pedal assembly.
If your car is a post 67 then it sounds like the hook on the clutch pedal is worn or breaking OFF.
