the 2.0L kombi engine ??
de_ja_vu - May 8th, 2003 at 07:10 AM

hello everybody, i am new in this forum. i am working on a baja based on semi-automatic chassis and 5 rib kombi gearbox....
i have 2 wrecked engines, one of them is kombi 1800cc engine and the other is the 2000cc, what i want is to do an upright conversion and use type-1 cooling fan and alternator, i was thinking about working on the 1.8 opened breather tower crankcase and heads and use the 2.0L crankshaft (71mm) cylinders and pistons (94mm), the rummers around here says that the 2.0L engine it's a pretty good and reliable engine, the problem is that it has a lot of torque but he is a very "lazy" engine, by lazy i mean it's slowly climbing up the rpms,
does anyone around here had any experience with the 2.0L(CU) engine ?
what would be better for me? using the 1.8 engine in it's stock form or building one good engine out of the 2 engines?

thank you..

Sounds good to me, The 1800 heads have the biggest valve size and coupled with the 2L displacement will go well.
All you will need from the 2L is the crank, conrods and pistons/cylinders.
I would not call this a lazy engine.

you have to remember the engine is trying to move a bus or a small house (if you own a camper lol ) down the road.:bounce

I have a CU motor in my vanagon 82 bus.

This motor apparently is different in the breather than other T4 motors and is only suitable for upright conversion if you do a Porsche shroud.
If you do a T1 shroud the breather fouls or something

welcome to the forum Shlomi!

Don't worry that your not an aussie, we will still answer your questions :D

You guys will never guess which country Shlomi is building a Baja in. I was amazed they had them over there :)

OK Wes - how did you know his name and what country he is from?

I thought it was strange he said he had a CU motor cause they were not sold here. Mine is a Suth Efrikun import.

Suth Efrikun - nah they would have heaps of bajas there!

Iceland - "Shlomi" pretty sure that is an Icelandic first name.

Yep - for sure!

Ps. Shlomi, you need to update your interests to include Volkswagens!!

i am from ISRAEL, nice shot col... :thumb
but, what fact turned me in??! how did u knew? was it my english? :(

i'm sorry, i am not really an aussie but i was invited by our forum moderator WES.

anyway, it's nice to meet u all, great forum, i hope to fit in...;)

hmmm. we've kinda lost the subject of the 2.0L kombi, so i think i'll just give it a shot and try it on my beetle with the 1800cc heads and stock carbs for now, i'll let u all know what came out of it....
and yes, apperantly the 2.0L CU engine came all the way to israel too, but i won't be able to use it's crankcase because of the enclosed breather tower which leaves no room for the alternator stand which is the key word for an upright conversion...
thanks for your answers..
shlomi from israel....
