I have just had some brake work done on my 67 kombi. I have a bunch of issues with the quality of the job but my main concern is that they have run stainless braided hose the full length of the chassis in place of the steel hard lines. Is this legal in NSW? You'd think a brake specialist place would know but you have to have doubts about anyone who hangs a brake line with plastic cable ties. I'm going to go back and blow up, I just want to know if I should add this to the list.
WTF????? Legal or not...thats a lot of dollars wasted...I would have thought the standard types of lines would need to be used...a lot more economical as well. If it was my car,no way in hell would I pay for a braided line where it was not needed....
The brake system is pretty modified meaning that the hard lines front and back needed to be changed . Rather than extend, bend , shorten and reflare 40 year old pipe I put it in to have the hard lines replaced. Instead of the steel tube normally used they used braided flexible lines for the whole system. As I said I have a bunch of issues with these guys( leaving 2 wheel studs in aplastic bag instead of in the wheel!! not fitting the brake light I supplied preasure switch to the MC) but now the flex line is in there I want to know if it is legal to use it.
Your best bet would be call the RTA technical enquiries line, sorry dont know the number but its not hard to find. The guys have always been straightforward and helpful if you have a sensible question.
I believe that if theres no Aust standards stamp not legal
I found this out on a motor bike front brake line
Could not get rwc with braided line even though they are better
They do have the stamp but they replace the full chassis length hard lines. I might call an engineer, If they aren't legall I want them replaced.
if the line is ADR approved (ie: manuafactured to the standards of the Aus Design Rules, not sure which one) the car WILL be legal. But each line must be marked/tagged as such - get the workshop to assure/show you this is the case
