44IDF Webers...starter device removal

Hi All,

thought i'd do a post here to see what comments come back.

I've a question with regards to 44 IDF Webers.

After having spent hours trying to resolve a performance problem with my new 1916 and the carbs it was determined that missing starter valves were causing flooding of the engine (refer attached pic).

I'd like to find out what people usually do when removing the starter device setup and install blocking plates on. Do you retain the starter valves or it there a blocking technique to follow?

I've got the same problem with my Spanish made 44IDF's.

The advise given to me was to install a set screw in the starter plunger bore. Apparently this is a common problem with non Italian made webers. I haven't done it yet but I'm planning on doing it soon, unless someone has a better idea.

hmm...ok...mine are italian made webers...this suggest another pronlem?

Ok, I just reread your first post.

Do your carbs still have the starter plungers?
Or are you talking about the mechanism that turns them on and off?
If the plungers are missing then you need to install some. Usually just the lever and cover are removed and a block off plate is installed, everything else is left in place.
The only time their a problem is when the retaining washer comes loose, this allows the plunger to lift off it's seat and excess fuel goes into the engine, this is what I was referring to in my previous post.

ok...cool

yeah, the carbs came with block off plates and don't have the plungers. The guy I got them from has sent some plungers to me so hopefully I'll have them by the end of the week.

Without them....the engine is drowning in fuel.... :)

Was wondering if anyone actually removes the plungers and installs some kind of blockoff to this circuit.
