Convert 4stud to wide 5
BrisDubba - April 22nd, 2007 at 09:54 PM

I am contemplating purchasing a 72 model beetle but would like to put my wide 5 eagles (Fuchs wannabees) on- given the 72 has bj front with 4stud is it doable to convert to wide 5 so I can use the wheels. I would imagine the rear I could change over the drums.

Any thoughts

you can buy adapters, but your offset may become a problem depending on the wheels.
Are the eagles wide 5 (5x205) or porsche 5 (5x130)??
Rears are not a problem.
You could narrow the beam to compensate the increase in offset and pull the fronts in under the fenders.

good solid adaptors plates are available from Vintage 02-9789-1777 in Sydney, but as per above your track is wider by about 25 mm

Thanks I will give them a call... these are the wheels I have at the moment.

This may be a stupid question, but I would imagine narrowing the beams would require shortening of the steering arms, etc ?

What if I was to run half inch wider rear tyres than the front, would this offset the wider track.

I understand that the wider track may rub etc on the front guards depending on how low it is, but am wondering about the handling for the moment.

Thanks in advance.
