ian.mezz - May 11th, 2007 at 02:12 PM
i have a couple of motors with the head stud pulled out of case, how do i go about fixing them so i can use motors again as they ran fine just leaking
between head and barrell some AD case 1600 and some H cases 1500.
I dont really want to pull case apart ??

You'll probably need something like this from ClassicVeeDub
Do a search for part number CVD-4022
good luck!

Ian
if u want a good job pull the engine and fit case savers
other wise your wasting your time again theres no short cut method

You want to be looking for what they call "Hungry Studs" which are a standard looking stud but they have a Oversized thread on the case end which
just winds straight back into the old hole (no taping required) and if alls well you can reset your head tension.
I have previosly used these on one of my own cars and have not had a problem since , but i would probably not recomend this fix for a high compresion
motor
And last but not least if you decide to go down this path make sure you get the right length stud

the engines are out sitting on the floor. So I just pull of heads and barrells and how do I get the case savers in Dave? I have 3 engines to do.

Those self-tapping studs work well,
but I aways wonder where all the chips go,
and which stud will be the next to pull.

Yep - they keep nearly-dead stocko engines alive for just that little bit longer. Great idea to change the oil immediatley after they have been
installed to help flush out any crap

Screw one in and find out...! As long as the thread is 'oversize' enough to 'self-tap' and get a grip on the case...

Dodgy.....
VWCOOL - May 18th, 2007 at 09:08 AM
Yeah, but as mentioned above, very handy for 'saving' an engine
koolkarmakombi - May 18th, 2007 at 01:52 PM
Depends.
He now knows they are there, can check the tension and if it works...
Perfect world is a new case, then less perfect is to fix this one.

So why is it dodgy little johny ?

I used a few of these on a nitros
engine I used to have in my
Manx...(1500 singleport with laughing
gas bolt on......) and they were
bulletproof and allowed me to get more use from the engine before i blew it up.I even kept them when the engine ...er...."broke" and threw
everything else away.Worth their weight in gold.
