Removing Type 3 Fastback seats
kombimatt - May 11th, 2007 at 07:44 PM

Having difficulty moving the seats in my Fasty. Want to remove them to have them recovered but they wont budge.

The lever at the side moves but does not appear to move the mechanism for sliding. Do Type 3 seats slide off their runners like a Kombi or do they bolt down?

Any help appreciated

Matt

On the rail closest to the tunnel (on both seats) there is a spring loaded clip towards the front that must be depressed with a screwdriver while moving the seat forward. If your rails are rusty or dirty, WD40 and the gentle use of a rubber hammer may help to keep things moving.

Thanks Craig - do they then slide all the way off?

Yep. I took my square back seats out last week, but they needed some convincing as the rails were corroded. Just make sure you keep the spring clip pressed down while moving the seat forward with the lever up, and in my case also tapping with the rubbber hammer. Old cars are fun.
