I'm in the process of building a 1915 and will be running an external oil filter and cooler. The oil pump cover is no problem and either is drilling and tapping the case for the return oil. where is the best place to block off the existing pump outlet in the pump or in the case where the pump slips in ?.

C'mon guys I'm standing here with drill in hand someone must have something.

Block it off WTF ?? Don't do it ..

If you have drilled your block and are using the pickup on the pump cover then just leave your factory oil cooler in place. Other wise you will over heat at idle and have to run thermos and all ssorts of stuff.You do not need to block anything off, just bolt it on and off she goes.

If you don't block it off what stops the oil from going thru the normal gallery and not thru the filter?. less resistance thru normal gallery than thru filter element.this is not full flow filtering is this correct?

Buggy Boyz is talking about blocking off the cooler... kafer70 is talking about where to block off the oil pump's existing outlet so that all the oil goes out through the plate... maybe a bit of miscommunication ???

I'm no engine guru, but pretty sure the "normal" way is to tap the outlet hole in the side of the pump and then screw a bung into it.

drill and tap the oil pump outlet............then loctite in an oil galley plug

I do the pump and the case to stop any bleeding back from poor fitting oil pumps.

But I think he has probably got it sorted now ....I hope he is still not holding that drill in his hand...cramp city after 5 1/2 years.

that said ive only done the pump but i full flowed my engine without splitting the case
seems to holding toghether ok 2 years later
but if i pulled it down id tap the gallery too
