I'm looking to replace the Weber 40 DCNF on the 1641 in my buggy and I'm looking for opinions on a suitable replacement. The buggy sees a lot of off
road use.
I was thinking of a single IDF Weber.
Does anyone know anything about the Empi carbies?
What is wrong with the DCNF
Why not a Pict 34?
As for the Empi IDF copies VWRX (Reub) is running some. Belive he is happy with them now.
Here is some one elses opinion

Single dual throat non progressive's generally are going to be difficult to jet up
Thanks for that info. :thumb
Definetly an eye opener.
The DCNF works well on the road and gives good power but off road it likes to flood itself on steep hills. I've heard that the IDF has better float
control.
Also there tends to be a better selection of air cleaners for the IDF. A good air filter is very important for off road driving.
What is a PICT 34 like for performance?
True comments about the DCNF Vs IDF
As for the Pict i run one on a 1916.
Plenty of torque
Yes - runs out of puff before the motor does
We have just spent a fair amount of time tweaking, cleaning and jetting the sucker and am very happy with it now
I reckon a 34pict with a float bowl breather extension (or whatever it needs to stop itself from spilling fuel down its own throat on hills) would be
good on a 1640
64vwmark, is the problem with the float, or with the float bowl breather? Not sure of those carbys' design details, but it may simply need extending
up to prevent sloshing when tilted...?
Bizarre, at what point/revs/speed does your carby strangle your engine? Is it 'all over' my, say, 90km/h in 3rd gear? I have a small-cammed 1916
here and might try it instead of a centre-mount progressive Weber

Nah.... 90km in 3rd no problems
Recon i would get closer to 110??
Will check my time slips
No worries! :thumb
will give a 34 a go, with a bigger (140?) main jet. I'd rather do that than mess around with dodgy, bent, worn, aftermarket shite
