009 Timing Tips?
rob53 - May 21st, 2007 at 01:53 PM

On the weekend, I gave my beetle a tune up, but I don't think the timing is spot on.

What timing position to do you recommend for the 009 dissy on a standard 1600 engine? Also it has a Solex H30/31 carb.

I set the points gap to around 50 Degrees(well almost), and the dissy is around 7.5 BTDC.

Cheers
Rob

Thanks, I will give that a try.

it has to be timed at maximum advance with the engine going,
so a strobe type timing lamp needs to be used...

measuring in a straight line from 0 to 30 degrees
= 45mm = approx 31 degrees..

The 009 Bosch dizzy was never used by VW on any of its engines..

Try the resouces in the link. There is some really good info there.

When measuring 45mm, is that along the perimeter of the flywheel? Or is it 45mm on the engine case? Sorry for the dumb question. Just want to be sure.

set it at 7.5 deg BTDC static (and only when the motor is cold).

What do you mean by "set points gap to around 50 degrees"?

Sorry, I meant 50 on a dwell meter. I can't remember what the unit is.
