Where is vin plate on 65 bug if there is one

Hi there all
We are trying to get a 65 bug road worthy and are looking for the vin plate. So is there a vin plate for a 65 bug or is it just the number under the back seat we use.
What year did they bring out vin plates on bugs.
Any help would be great.

No VIN or Compliance plates required on pre-ADR cars (1972, I think). Just the chassis number under the back seat...

yes there should be a plate but not like the later ID VIN plates that came out in the early 70s 72 i think

the origional plate had the chassis number stamped on it and was behind the spare tire

Whats yr chassis number start with 195 ???
