Shortening engine computer harness
shaihulud - June 7th, 2007 at 05:19 AM

I am in the process of fitting the engine management harness of my Subaru EJ20 engine to the Manx SR. I have had it reduced to its essentials but some of the wires are over a meter too long for a good looking fit, with nowhere to tuck them away out of sight.

If I cut them and solder every join will that do the job without problems?

Yep... only do one wire at a time, though!! Also, use heatshrink and try and stagger each join so they don't 'thicken' the harness at one point

And make sure there are NO three-way splices hidden in the harness that you don't know about; sometimes one wire can become two along its length

Thank you gentlemen.

I was hoping that it would be O.K.

Thanks for the suggestions, especially the 3 way splices and staggered joins ideas.

If there is anything that I have learned from my first experience with a ECU engine, it's that there are plenty of traps for the unwary.
